Tinisha Lyons is the Nash Academy’s Director of Salon Operations, which means she manages the salon’s multifaceted purposes while also serving as head instructor for the students there. She is also involved in the PET Program, which serves to get state-of-the-art tools and products to the students at Nash Academy, so that they can perfect their skills using the best the grooming industry has to offer.
Tinisha grew up in Winchester, Kentucky, though she was born at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and is the proud mother of three grown children and four grandchildren, as well as two standard poodles, Paisley and Louie. Her daughter, Stephanie, has been a dog groomer at her mother’s side since she was eighteen, though she is now completing her nursing degree. Clearly helping others, both human and animal, runs in this family.
Actually, Tinisha is a second-generation dog groomer, having learned the craft from her own groomer mother, just as her daughter has had this art passed to her. She helped out from an early age at her mother’s salon, and fell in love with working with dogs and the creativity involved in making them beautiful.
“Dogs are the best because they love you unconditionally and they can find the joy in everything you do with them,” Tinisha said. “They can provide us with a sense of emotional well-being and comfort. I love the different roles a dog can play in so many different situations. Dogs are protectors, healers, they lead the blind, they help the deaf, they work with our police force, they serve in our military, they find missing children, they can find cancer in our body, they can sniff out drugs. There is no end to how a dog can make all of our lives so much better. Life is just so much better with a dog.” She cites a lifelong experience of having a special bond with dogs, though she loves all animals. Clearly, all of us at Nash agree 100%!
